Built Because of November 8, 2018.

The Camp Fire changed everything. Ember Guard exists so that what happened to Paradise never happens to another community unprepared.

Our Story

On November 8, 2018, the Camp Fire tore through Butte County and destroyed the town of Paradise, California. 85 people lost their lives. Over 19,000 structures burned. It remains the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California history.

Our founder, Chris Johnson, was living in neighboring Forest Ranch. He watched friends and neighbors lose everything. He saw firefighters working in impossible conditions on terrain that gave them no chance. He saw a community he loved reduced to ash.

That experience never left. Years later, after building businesses in other industries, Chris launched Ember Guard with a single mission: give California homeowners, communities, and firefighters every possible advantage before the next fire arrives.

This is not a landscaping company that added fire services. Ember Guard was built from the ground up around California’s defensible space requirements, CalFire compliance standards, and the real conditions that turn WUI fires into disasters.

Our Mission

Protect homes, communities, and firefighters by preventing the conditions that turn wildfires into disasters. Every lot cleared is a home that might still be standing after the next fire. Every fuel break is a line where firefighters can make a stand.

How it Works

More Than Cleared. Certified and Documented.

Fire-First, Not Landscaping-First

Every crew member is trained specifically for fire abatement. We know CalFire zones, compliance standards, and the vegetation conditions that create real risk.

Documented and Certified

Every job includes before and after photo documentation, GPS-tagged records, and a compliance certificate you can hand to your insurance company or fire inspector.

Built for the Long Term

We do not clear your lot and disappear. Our subscription plans keep your property compliant year after year with bi-annual maintenance visits and annual documentation updates.
